MATTHEW POWERS MATLACK
Space 380 Music Promotion

Mat started his music business career like many people have. He was the member of his band that took the position of booking agent, manager, accountant & promoter from 1989. After several years of working independently on his band, THE FOLLOW, Mat joined the ranks of Relax Productions in 1996.

At RELAX PRODUCTIONS, he started as the Metal Specialty Promoter and charted his first band in CMJ. During the two years there, Mat moved around to the Jazz, New Age, and Rock departments. He also launched the booking department for Relax Productions and scheduled tours for up to 10 bands. Mat also booked six nights a week at the Down Under Bar in Columbia, MO. There he learned audio, lighting, show promotion, and the importance of networking.

In the summer of 1997, he found himself thrown into the Tour Manager position for ROBIN TROWER. Mat stepped in to replace the current Tour Manager one week into the ten-week tour. It was a smashing success.

Mat was then the Director of College Radio Promotions for Relax from Autumn of 1997 through the Spring of 1998. He then returned to manage Trower's 1998 tour. Upon his return in September of that year, the owner of Relax Productions had decided to quit the business after 15 years. Mat was on his own again.

October 1998: Mat founded SPACE 380 MUSIC PROMOTION. From a one-phone-line, one-laptop bedroom office, to a four-staff, four-intern company, Space 380 has grown at a rapid pace. They have promoted PIGFACE, KINGDOM FLYING CLUB, GRAVITY KILLS, TRANCENDEN, gODHEAD, AALACHO, THRILL KILL KULT, SUPERNAUTS, DOPE, VANISHING KIDS, SOMEONE STILL LOVES YOU BORIS YELTSIN, CHRIS HASKETT, CHEMLAB, and many more.

They offer radio promotion to college, commercial, Internet, and satellite stations, press promotion to print and the Net, plus tour promotion and retail promotion. The company finds itself looking into new ways to promote artists and their music through mediums such as Blogs, PodCasting, Digital Jukeboxes, Custom Burn CD Kiosks and more. Video promotion, CD/DVD manufacturing, TV commercials, and retail distribution are just some of the areas in which Space 380 has developed relationships with key players to help artists complete their network of self-sufficiency.

Professional consulting on music promotion and technical equipment is also available through Space 380. Mat consults businesses regarding professional audio, video, and lighting systems. These services include the areas of design, installation and operation.

Mat has also toured as Auxiliary Percussionist for Robin Trower and as a drum tech for Alvino Bennett (Chaka Kahn, Kenny Loggins, Muddy Waters).
